How To Use Excel Grouping

This is useful when you have data that goes left to right instead of top to bottom.

How to use excel grouping. On the data tab in the outline group click group group rows or group columns. On the data tab in the outline group click the group command. Then select the row or column which we want to select. On the data tab in the outline group click the ungroup command. Go to data tab in the ribbon and click on the group command under the outline group.

There is also a 1 button in the top left corner to collapse all groups and a 2 button to expand all groups. Select the rows or columns you wish to ungroup. Select a set of rows that you want to group together. Once you re finished you can press the buttons in the margin to collapse the rows or columns. A drop down menu will appear. Optionally if you want to outline an inner nested group select the rows or columns within the outlined data range and repeat step 3. You ll find this option on the far right side of the data ribbon. Select any cell in one of the rows you want to group. Suppose if we select 5 rows in a sequence then we will be able to plus sign which is used to expand or collapse the selected rows.

Step 1 open your excel document. To access group in excel go to the data menu tab and select the group option. You should see that a set of dots next to each row would be created and a small box with a minus sign will be created and it can be used to expand the group. And then select on group from the drop down menu list. If you want to expand them again press the buttons in the margin as shown in the screenshot below.

It works exactly the same as grouping rows. Add subtotals to each country manually. Go to the data tab outline group click the arrow under group and select auto outline. Sometimes the worksheet contains complex data which is very difficult to read analyze to access read these types of data in an easier way the grouping of cells will help you out.
